The Man In The White Hat

Maybe I'm just a Country Music snob. Perhaps I'm a little hoity toity in my know-it-all-ness (or what I perceive to be know it all-ish) but I'm somewhat disturbed when someone walks into my office, sees the below picture and asks who the man in the hat is.

Do YOU know who the man in the hat is?

The guy with the huge microphone is The Biffer, aka my dad. 1948, Houston, Texas. He bought that shirt for Hank and it used to hang in that museum over on Music Row where the Tin Roof is now.

Well good grief. Anyone can tell it's one of those old tymey pictures of Hank III from his last album. What kind of non hipsters do you work with?

"Course I know it's Hank. I might not think that much about it if you lived in Boston or San Diego or someplace, but for pete's sake...your co-workers in Nashville don't know who it is?! Who do they think it is?

I work with Cedric Rainwater's son, Howard Watts. Did your dad know him?

Sara Clark-you grew up in these parts...not everybody in the City Limits likes or gives a rip about the music. I remember a time when the people around me in Brentwood totally looked down their noses on the music. I guess so many of them moving out there made them be a little more accepting.

This guy has lived in Nashville all his life. I guess he's just not plugged into that sort of thing.

Cedric/Howard-I'm sure Dad knew him but I really know of him through Mr. Smiff. He left Bill Monroe with Lester and Earl. Bet Bill didn't speak to him for years. Kinda a king amongst bluegrass bass players.

Weird how the locals are somewhat jaded to country music. The number one radio station in Nashville ISN'T country. Neither is the number TWO station. Pretty unbelievable.

Love Hank Sr.

Hank looks cool, but quite honestly, Biff looks cooler.

Looks like Biff borrowed one of CLC's ties. He was stylin' back then. And at the time, he had more money than Hank. Heh.

I wish, wish, wish, I had the picture of him and young Elvis, circa 1954 when he booked him in Houston.

It makes me sad that people don't recognize Hank.
