Thespian Kin

Have I ever mentioned here that I'm related to this guy? No, seriously, I am.

Lewis Smith is a real, bonafide, working Hollywood actor. (Notice I didn't say famous) This is how it goes: My grandfather had a younger sister named Millie and she was Lewis' grandmother. Pretty cool, huh? His daddy, Art, looked a lot like my dad and looked more like he belonged to my grandfather, although I've been told by some family members, I have a bit of a resemblance to Aunt Millie. The gene pool on that side of the family is heavy duty.

Besides "Buckaroo Banzai",
Lewis had a pretty good part in "North and South" and was in another movie in the 80's called "The Heavenly Kid." I see the box every time I go into the Video Depot in Hendersonville. Lewis used to be Marsha Mason's boyfran and he is close pals with Garry Shandling.

Oddly enough, I've never met Lewis and the only movie I've ever seen that he was in was that made-for-tv movie about the showdown in Waco. I think he played an ATF agent.

Maybe one of these days Lewis Smiff and Sista Smiff will meet. (Different Smiffs but a Smiff is a Smiff, by golly!) I bet he would have plenty of good stories to tell.

Who are you kin to that's famous or kinda sorta famous?

I actually went to the cinema to see Buckaroo Banzai.
And I dug, back in the day.

Spouse Guy is distantly related to the late Keith Whitley. I don't know how far out on the branches of the family tree that relationship is because SG's dad didn't approve of Keith Whitley's lifestyle and refuses to talk about it.

As for me, I'm not related to anyone famous that I know of. But supposedly some VERY distant cousin of my mom's co-wrote that song Swingin' that John Anderson had a hit with about 20 years ago. I have no idea if that's really true, though.

That would be Lionel Delmore. His daddy and uncle were an early country duo, known for "Blues Stay Away From Me."

I want to say that Lionel died a year or two ago.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but my second cousin is Peter Isacksen, the really tall pale guy from CPO Sharkey. You'd know him if you saw him...

He was a frequent guest on the Love Boat, Fantasy Island, the $20,000 Pyramid and Battle of the Network Stars. We're all so proud.

Ok, I lied. I have seen another movie Lewis was in, but, his role was so small, I don't remember it but it was "I Ought To Be In Pictures". Incidentally, the first movie I ever watched on our brand new VCR, Christmas Day of 1983.

Blogarita-tell your father in law there is nothing to be ashamed about Keith Whitley. He was an alcoholic but a very nice guy and a great singer. He should be proud to be kin to him.
