A Piece of the Pie

The fine folks at TVLand have wonderfully seen fit to start showing "The Jeffersons." I love this show. It's just funny.

The Jeffersons theme song, "Movin' On Up" is, I guess, my very favorite tv show theme song. I used to think, when I was a kid, that it was Sherman Helmsley singing harmony part to Janet Dubois' (aka Wilona on "Good Times") lead, but, it isn't.

I love how George struts into the building. Ah...what a great show. They don't make them like this anymore.

What's your favorite tv show theme song?

Stop..make it stop!!! It's driving me crazy....

Why on earth did I read j.'s comment? My brain is in bad enough shape without this verse going around and around and around...

Just kidding.....
I hope.

Now who did sing the lead?

Seriously, to answer the question, I would probably have to say the theme from the Beverly Hillbillies.

Jerald

Frickin' hell. J should be shot. Or at least tickled for a while. I too have that stuck in my head.

My favorite had to be either the Andy Griffith Show (no words, just whistling and guitar) or:

Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed.

He stripped poor granny and threw her on the bed.

Down came the zipper, out came...

......

oh wait, those aren't the real words. Anyway, that's one of my favorite tv theme shows. Or Gilligan's Island. Dang, there are so many to choose from.

Oh, the hits just keep comin'!

"Welcome back
Your dreams were your ticket out
Welcome back
To that same 'ol place that you laughed about"

I love "The Jeffersons" but it was a bit sad to watch an old episode recently and realize everyone in the cast has left us except Sherman Helmsley.

In junior high chorus, we were forced to perform "Suicide Is Painless"...the theme to M*A*S*H*. Yes, there are lyrics and they're not happy ones. What on earth was Mrs. Tackett thinking?

"One, two, three, four,
five, six, seven, eight
Schlemeel, schlemazel,
hasenfeffer incorporated"

And am I alone in thinking that Linda Lavin was AWFUL singing the "Alice" theme?

Peter Gunn theme, hands down..

Once again showing my age, but that bass line rocks

I always was least in like with Linda Lavin....the rest of that cast was fantastic. Vera.....gosh, what a hoot. Flo goes without saying.

I'm with John...any song with prominent bass in it is good. ;) I forgot about the Barney Miller theme.

I love any theme song that spells out the premise of the show. The Brady Bunch, Gilligans Island, Beverly Hillbillies, etcetera are all good examples of those.

And commenter Frank, that's a truely bizarre choice for a junior high chorus!

Years ago, Brentwood Academy did a variety show and the theme was all movie songs. Somebody sang the MASH theme and that was the first time I ever knew there were lyrics to it. I probably didn't yet know that there was a movie before there was a tv show.

By the way, I believe I owe an apology to Marla Gibbs. She's still kickin'.

I heard some SWA flight attendants talking about celebrities they'd met over the years and who they like and who they don't.

They agreed that Sherman was one of the most frequent and their most favorite of flyers. He was always polite and happy to "do the strut" upon request.

Did you know that Isabel Sanford (Weezie) was more than 20 years older than Sherman?

Sherman must have a good sense of himself if he went on Surreal Life. I love to hear when celebrities are nice people in person.

There are so many good ones to choose from....

I'd have to say it comes down to two...

The theme from Dr Who
The theme from classic Star Trek.

Love them both.
