The Two B's-Bitchin' & Bronchitis

The Grascals have gotten themselves three nominations for the 2006 IBMA awards...Recorded Event for their participation in Celebration of Life: Musicians Against Childhood Cancer, Vocal Group of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. That's swell.

No, really, I'm not disappointed that Mr. Smiff didn't get a nod for Bass Player, and I won't rattle on and on about how he can play friggin circles around the same guys/girls that got nominated, and have been nominated every year for a decade. I won't rattle about how Dave Talbot should've been nominated for Banjo, Danny Roberts for mandolin, Jimmy Mattingly for fiddle and Terry Eldredge should've gotten a nod for Male Vocalist. I am above such petty whining. I will say I'm pissed and leave it at that. I'll get over it. The stuff they got nominated for is a big deal and I'm very proud of all of them.

The awards ceremony is September 28 in Nashville. Hopefully, I'll be able to get ahold of a laptop so I can help liveblog the awards for my pals over at The Bluegrass Blog.

You can see a full list of nominees here.

Until then, I will celebrate the nominations with my 4 prescriptions for Bronchitis. I'm hoping that cough stuff has some of that fabulous hydrocodone in it...or as the Mother in Law calls it "Them Michael English pills."

Good grief. I think the only new things the IBMA people have listened to this year were the Grascals and Three Ring Circle.

Thousands of talented musicians and you see the same five nominated on their instruments every year. I like those musicians, but unless they've come up with some freaky new innovation in the last 10 years, move over and appreciate some newer talent as well. Where's Mr. Smiff? or any of the Grascals guys that you mentioned? all have considerable individual musical talent. Andy Leftwich? don't see his name anywhere.
And finally, I just don't care for Cherryholmes. They are not the greatest thing to hit Bluegrass. The kids are individually talented and the oldest daughter is especially talented, but Mom.... They are working their asses off but ehh.

Sorry for the rant. Mostly redictable and disappointing nominations. Happy Cough Medicine.

Don't get me started on Cherryholmes.

Apparently, those intstrumental awards are as Mr. Smiff says, a hard nut to crack. He didn't seem bothered by it. Boy, I was. Something about narcotics in ones system is causing me to almost not care.

You can come over and ghost write a rant on Cherryholmes on my site whenever you want to. Just so you could still professionally smile to their face.

BWAHAHA at Michael English pills. Sista, we are suffering together in this bronchitis thing. I'm pretty sure I caught it from reading your blog. One of them computer viruses.

Shauna....I still blame CeeElCee for this one. He got it first. I was in his presence right before he came down with it. I think he is to blame. Then Sara Clark had it.

I don't know about you, but, this stuff is kinda scary. I can't even lie down cause when I do I can't breathe. I'm glad I didn't wait til tomorrow to go or I'd have needed lots of those ME pills. This SUCKS.

Hey, I know you feel like crap today, but go look on the front page of the Tennessean website. They might even be on the front page of the real paper.

I'm sorry I missed news of your illness. I hop by now this finds you better.

I've got quite a stash of the Michael English pills built up. 3 surgeries in 3 weeks will do that to you.

But you'll have to email me and explain the "michael english" part. I think it's something in the music biz that I'm outta the loop on. (That would be EVERYTHING in the music biz.)

Michael had quite the fondness for hydrocone (who can blame him!). Some years ago he got caught forging prescriptions or something.

I do believe he's clean now. I love to hear that ol boy sing.
